| Heavy rain lashed Sixways Stadium as Mike Ruddock’s men looked to ease past their Romanian opponents and guarantee a home quarter-final.
But not even the poor conditions could halt the rampant Warriors who followed up an impressive victory against Montauban in France last weekend with another clinical Euro show of attacking rugby.
The highlight for many was a stunning opening try from New Zealand international Gear who picked up the ball in his own half before tearing past several Bucuresti players to score under the posts in one of the most stunning scores eve seen at the stadium.
"Rico didn't actually train on Friday because he had an allergy - I told him he can have every Friday off if he scores tries like that," said Ruddock.
"It was a great try and really sparked us. They had been really stubborn and a difficult team to face, that bit of magic really got us going and really brought the crowd to life.
"It had pace and power, it was a moment of class from a player we know can produce that.
"It was a professional display from the boys and know we lookm forward to a home quarter-final and are only two games from a final."
Ruddock handed a start to James Collins in the back row, in place of rested skipper Pat Sanderson, while Matt Mullan was named at hooker and Will Bowley in the second row as Aleki Lutui and Craig Gillies moved to the replacements bench.
Warriors had already guaranteed themselves a place in the last eight of the competition. But knew a bonus point victory over their Romanians visitors would not only give them a home quarter-final but also a potential semi-final in the European Challenge Cup.
Warriors looked pumped up from the start and eager to make a quick impact with Loki Crichton kicking behind the visitors before Rico Gear released Miles Benjamin who handed off his man before being bundled into touch by the full back as he looked to dive over.
The Romanians desperately tried to clear their lines and were fortunate to get a lifeline when Darren Morris tried to offload near the line and the ball was knocked on.
Warriors were hitting the Bucuresti defence with everything they had but the slippy ball was making handling difficult as Sam Tuitupou and Thinus Delport both made big yards.
Sixways exploded after 11 minutes when Rico Gear scored one of the most memorable tries every seen at the club. The New Zealand international picked the ball up inside his own half before bursting past two men with staggering pace. He then stepped inside another man, as he entered the 22, before handing off the final man as he tore in under the posts to wild celebrations from the home crowd. Crichton added the extras for a 7-0 lead.
The home support was now buzzing with excitement and five metres later the home side had scored a second of the afternoon when a driving lineout saw hooker Matt Mullan crash over at the back. Crichton just saw his conversion slid wide in the rain.
The Worcester pressure was now incessant as Drew Hickey made a scorching break before the ball was taken on by Collins and Gear. Bucuresti were guilty of diving over the top and Crichton stroked over a penalty.
Try scorer Mullan was replaced by Aleki Lutui after a nasty cut to his face and the rain grew ever harder. But it had little impact as skipper for the day Matt Powell burst past his tackler to make 30 yards and kick over the top.
Bucuresti lost Mihai Macovei to the sin bin after he failed to roll away on 23 minutes and Warriors looked to turn the screw up front.
However, referee Alan Falzone disallowed a try for Tom Wood after he had sidestepped the final man but was adjudged to have lost control of the ball forward as he dived over in the punishing rain.
The rain was causing problems to both sides but worked to Warriors favour when Gear intelligently kicked a grubber ahead and Bucuresti lost control in the try zone and Benjamin dived on the loose ball to score a third try.
The visitors finally mounted an attack as the first half ticked down but the door was firmly slammed shut by Warriors with Drew Hickey and Dale Rasmussen in the thick of the action.
Forwards Callum Black and Craig Gillies entered the second half battle and in the wet weather, that had made the ball more a bar of soap, Warriors struggled to make a mark in the opening minutes as they were repeatedly pulled up for forward passes by Italian referee Falzone.
Bucuresti managed a sustained period of pressure on the Worcester line as the game descended into a forward battle.
Worcester finally managed to clear their lines and did so with devastating effect as Rasmussen bulldozed over for the all important fourth try and bonus point just before the hour with replacement James Brown adding the conversion for a 27-0 lead.
Fly half Brown then got in the scoring action as he peeled around the short side and slid over after more brute forward power from Warriors.
The pressure was now non-stop from Worcester and back row giant Gavin Quinnell entered the match and took just eight minutes before he popped up on the back of a rolling maul and when fed by Ryan Powell crashed over the line. Brown made no mistake with the extras for a 39-0 lead.
Warriors put the icing on the cake three minutes from time when Mullan was pushed over from close range and Brown again slotted the extra two points.
