Using rugby as a vehicle, the purpose of Worcester Warriors’ Community Department’s programmes is to increase physical activity, healthy lifestyle knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence in young people living throughout Worcestershire.
We rely heavily on local business and government funding, both to sustain all of the current programmes and develop new schemes targeting priority groups.
To continue enhancing the lives of young people through sport, it’s also essential for us to gain as much support as possible from organisations and individuals.
The Worcester Warriors Supporters Club is a great example. On learning about the Community Department’s work, WWSC decided to help and, after much discussion, came up with the idea of the Supporters Rugby Development Fund.
Its mission is to assist the promotion and development of rugby at its grass roots, through its association with the community projects at Worcester Warriors.
It also aims to help at the higher elite level by offering financial support to the Warriors Academy in its aim to bring more home grown players into the Premiership.
The fund grows as members make monthly donations, by standing order, and also through special WWSC fund-raising events. All administration costs for the fund are met by the Supporters Club, ensuring that every penny goes to the projects chosen.
Grants are then made to the club from this fund, for specific projects within the remit of the fund. The progress of these projects are then closely followed and reported back to the fund members, through a regular newsletter, so that they can appreciate the results of their contributions.
Make a contribution
We believe this is a unique project within the rugby fraternity, and one to be justly proud of. Anyone who wants to join the fund or perhaps make a one-off contribution, please contact us via e-mail at chairman@worcesterwarriorssupportersclub.org
